Over the years, I have carried out many, many website audits. To get a quick idea of how well a website is optimised, I like to check the website meta data.
On a small site, it is easy enough to carry this out manually by checking the source code or going through each page; however, with larger sites, automation is necessary.
I have been using Screaming Frog for years and if you want to get a quick overview of whether title tags, descriptions, H1 tags etc are optimised and up to date- this tool does it. It also helps you see how discoverable the pages on your website are.
It’s really simple to use and it’s free for a crawl of up to 500 pages. All you need to do is, run the report then check each page to make sure all tags are correct:
